"The Gray Chamber" by Grace Hitchcock

Life seemed to be going along fine for Edyth Foster until someone wanted her out of the way. The year is 1887, it is New York, and while she is eccentric, she is perfectly sane. Edyth's 25th birthday is just months away and she would inherit the vast fortune left her.  Who would want to get in her way?

Edith seemed to be on top of the world, at least in her estimation. She freely rode her velocipede around time and was an avid fencing participant. She was also in love and just about ready to have full control of her inheritance. What could possibly have made anyone think she needed to be committed to Blackwell's Island, "hospital" for the insane? Once she arrived there, how would she get out? How could she prove her sanity when money seemed to have all the power? Come along on this fictional story based on true crime. You won't be able to stop fighting for her!

I loved this book and read it in one sitting. It was impossible for me to put it down because the characters and situations continually pulled me deeper in. The fact that it was based on true crime made it even more intriguing. If you like mystery, true crime, intrigue, and well written stories, you will love this! I recommend it to readers of all types.  Thank you to Barbour Publishing for my review copy. This review is totally mine.
